match for cyclists who run Di2 but want lower gearing options.
It's no secret that several of the peloton's top professionals prefer lower gears for steeper climbs. While the riders can handle steep pitches with standard chainrings and cassettes, many of them choose options that allow them to climb at higher cadences.

After all, the last of the day's three big climbs, the Category 1 Mur de Peguere, presented the riders with pitches as steep as 18 percent. To make it happen, Team Sky mechanics installed Shimano XT mountain bike cassettes on Wiggins' wheels for Stage 14. But this created a new problem: In order to accommodate the larger rear cogs (with as many as 36 teeth) a long cage rear derailleur is required. A mountain bike rear derailleur might have fixed the issue, if the squad used mechanical groupsets. But Team Sky rides Shimano's Di2 electronic group, which offers no long cage option.
